Meet Policies
Swim meets are important and it is a privilege to be able to compete. For this reason the club has some attendance policies for eligibility. This policy comes into effect for travel meets. The club does not want to send unprepared swimmers to swim meets. The opportunity for a swimmer to travel to an out of town meet can be very exciting. Travel can be a great incentive to train hard and qualify.
The swimmer must make the minimum percentage of practices in order to be allowed to participate swim meets of more than 1 day long. The minimum percentage is 75%. The 75% includes all sickness, illnesses and family holiday time. If you can not commit to the required minimum practices you may not be ready or prepared enough to compete in the meet. Showing up late for practice will also be taken into consideration when selecting eligibility for meets. Due to the limited pool space available all swimmers and should be there 15 minutes prior to the start of practice to stretch and get ready for the practice ahead of them.
If attendance policies are not met, then the swimmer is not allowed to compete at invitational or championship meets. It should be pointed out that if a swimmer qualifies for a travel meet and his/her travel arrangements are made the family will be responsible for the costs.
The coach of your swimmer will decide what meets your child/ren will be attending throughout the swimming year. If your child/ren has been notified that they are to attend a meet all permission slips and payment must be submitted to the treasurer. Late permission slips will not be accepted. If you have any questions or concerns as to why you child/ren may or may not be asked to attend a specific meet, feel free to ask the coach.
These policies which may seem severe are important because swimmers are representing the Selkirk Dolphin Swim Club and the City of Selkirk and surrounding area. It should be pointed out that we do our best to have as much fun at swim meets as we can.
