First Meet
Welcome to competitive swimming. Racing,
whether it is your first time or your 100th, is very stressful for
both parents and swimmers.
There are a few things you need to
be aware of to have a positive experience at a swim
meet.
Your swimmer is expected
to be at the pool 15 minutes prior to the designated warm-up.
At this time they will do stretches with the team and talk to the
coach about the warm-up they are expected to do including drill,
technique, kick, pull and focus on all turns. With 20 minutes
left they will practice the starts to get used to the blocks and
check their goggles. After warm-up
they will return to the Team area and prepare to do a Team Cheer
and get ready for their races.
It is extremely important
that we all cheer for our Teammates.
Your child will be assigned
an experienced buddy to help walk them through the steps of marshalling(positive
attendance and lane check prior to heat).
The swimmers times are
entered into the field relative to their gender and age and then
ranked from the fastest to slowest. Results are posted throughout
the pool area for all to observe. It is very important to provide
you swimmer positive feedback and encouragement. Swimming
is a very individual sport and improvement is based on own personal
achievements and times.
It is extremely
important to know where the swimmers are at all times
Parents are not
allowed to spec tate from the deck area, there is an observation
area available.
Once they have finished
their races for the session they are allowed to leave and should
inform the coach.
